English World Grammar Practice Book 1

English World Grammar Practice Book 1 is the first-level grammar practice companion to the English World primary course: the workbook that gives a beginner child’s first English grammar its practice pages.

English World’s design begins gently and builds surely — the coursebook introduces each small structure in song, story and dialogue, and this practice book secures it with exercise sets a young child can genuinely finish: tracing the pattern, circling the answer, completing the sentence, always with the model in sight.

It is written for children beginning English with the English World course — and for their teachers and parents, who will find here the course’s first grammar made visible, one small mastered pattern at a time.

English World Grammar Practice Book 1 cover

Every long English journey starts with a handful of sentences a child can call their own: I am, this is, he is, she has got. This first practice book exists to make those sentences unshakeable. Its sets are short, bright and heavily modelled — the verb be in its first shapes, a and the, plurals in their simplest forms, prepositions placed by picture, questions a child can ask a friend — each structure returning across the year until the patterns hold without effort. The English World partnership protects the beginner absolutely: nothing is practised that the coursebook has not first made familiar, and nothing is demanded beyond what a small child can succeed at, because at this level success is the curriculum — the feeling that English is a thing they can do. Teachers use it to give the youngest classes real homework with real value; parents open it and watch school English become their child’s own handwriting. It is the smallest book in the practice series and, in its way, the most important: the foundation course of the foundation, laid carefully.

About This Book

Grammar Practice Book 1 is the workbook half of English World’s first level — the practice companion where the youngest learners secure their very first English grammar: the sentences, patterns and little structures from which the whole six-level course, and a lifetime of English, will be built.

What Learners Will Practise

The First Sentences

The verb be — I am, you are, he is, she is — with names, ages, feelings and classroom things: the child’s first true English sentences, practised until they can be produced about anything the child can point at.

Naming the World

A and an, this and that, plurals in their friendly forms, and have got for the treasures of a schoolbag — the grammar of showing and owning that fills a beginner’s day with sayable things.

Asking, Pointing, Placing

First questions with be, can for the abilities children love to announce, and prepositions in, on, under learned by picture — the small grammar that lets a young learner join the classroom’s English conversation.

Key Features

Absolute sequencing is the feature: practice never outruns the coursebook, so a beginner never meets a demand they cannot meet. The modelling is the second — every set shows before it asks — and the confidence harvest the third: this book’s finished pages are a child’s first evidence that they can do English.

Who This Book Is For

It is for beginner primary learners on English World Level 1, infant and early-primary teachers, and parents beginning English alongside their child at home.

How to Use This Book

Keep sessions short and celebratory: one small set, finished and praised by name. Practise orally first — say the pattern together before the pencil moves — and let pictures carry meaning rather than translation. Reread completed pages aloud at the week’s end; a beginner’s pride in their own finished English is the fuel Level 2 will run on.
